ECOCIDE ALERT IN THE SOUTHERN CAUCASUS
Ecocide Alert in Nagorno–Kharabakh region amidst war between Armenia and Azerbaijan
Dear Partner,
As you may be aware, on September 27th, 2020, full–blown war exploded between Armenia & Azerbaijan over Naghorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) with four ceasefire regimes negotiated under the umbrella of Minsk OSCE Group, violated during October, 2020.
During this large-scale war, the most intensive since the 1994 ceasefire agreement in the Southern Caucasus region, a number of war crimes were mounted & documented, among them beheadings of Armenian soldiers, killing of civilians in a city square wrapped in Armenian flags, deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructures – residential buildings, churches, food markets, schools and maternity hospitals.
On October 30, 2020, the environmental community of Armenia, including local, regional & international environmental organizations, conservation pioneers, scientists and non-governmental organizations, was shocked to witness another disastrous war crime against natural ecosystems & crucial livelihoods of Artsakh.
As per credible reports & collected data, comprised by Human’s Right Defender of Armenia, Azerbaijani military forces have used white phosphorus munitions containing elements of chemical weapons in the primary forests of Artsakh, which is a gross violation of International Humanitarian Law, principles of Customary Law, Geneva Convention, Chemical Weapons Convention, Convention on the Prohibition of Military or Any Other Hostile Use of Environmental Modification Technique, as well as the provisions of the relevant UN conventions and documents. As video evidence shows, these weapons are being used in an attempt to burn down forests where-civilians are taking shelter from Azerbaijan’s attacks.
The ongoing large-scale war seriously threatens the biodiversity of the region, which has been recognized
as one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. This region is well-known for its high rate of endemism and for being home to more than 6000 plant species, 153 species of mammals, 400 species of birds and other living organisms. Hundreds of plant and animal species found in Artsakh are listed both in the local Red Book and the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species having a protection status at a global level.
Among them are the critically endangered Persian (Caucasian) Leopard, known to migrate through Mrav ridge of Armenia & Artsakh towards the Iranian border, as well as to Azerbaijan and vice versa, which is a rare species with declining numbers protected at a regional & global level.
Furthermore, Armenia & Artsakh are known for their primary forests, which are amongst the most biodiverse forests in the region. Not only do these forests play a major role in preserving favorable environmental conditions for sustainable development, but local people are heavily dependent on these forests for their livelihoods. Traditional forest-related knowledge accumulated over thousands of years is deeply linked with the cultures of indigenous people living in Artsakh.
The usage of white phosphorus munitions by Azerbaijani forces in those forests will not only destroy valuable ecosystems & habitats and put threatened species at the risk of extinction, but will contaminate rivers & underground waters for years, thus turning into a major threat of regional scale for all the people and wildlife living in the region.
We are therefore calling out to the global conservation community for support to help stop the usage of white phosphorus munitions before they cause an environmental disaster and regional ecocide.
The usage of white phosphorus munitions contradicts to all the provisions of all environmental conventions including the Bern Convention, Nagoya protocol to Helsinki & Rotterdam conventions, verified by the Governments of both Armenia & Azerbaijan.
Although 98% of the global population live under the protection of the Chemical Weapons Convention, this
is, as we understand, unfortunately not applicable towards Armenia & ethnic Armenians living in Artsakh.
Ongoing developments continue to threaten any form of life in the region and thus we’re addressing you, as a leading environmental organization in the field, to:
● Write to appropriate contacts & conservation partners in your network to express your concern of the possible environmental destruction in Artsakh and the region
● Raise awareness within your networks/social channels and:
● Condemn the actions of any military force that uses white phosphorus munitions in forests & habitats destroying crucial ecosystems and therefore forbidden under international law.
● Call for responsibility to protect valuable ecosystems, species populations & genetic resources from ecocide in Artsakh.
● Call for moral responsibility in a time of war and exclude war crimes both against humans and nature.
Please kindly inform us, the undersigned, about actions undertaken by your organization advocating for sustainable development & environmental resilience, and further steps aimed at eliminating the risk of the ecocide in Artsakh region, which is a crucial habitat to threatened species & populations not recognizing political borders and/or regional disputes.

Բնության հետ ներդաշնակ / In harmony with Nature
Ես չեմ կարող պատկերացնել, թե ինչպես մարդ արարածը կարող է այսքան դաժան ու բարբարոս գտնվել բնության հանդեպ՝ ստորացնելով կենդանիներին: Որքան հեշտորեն մարդը կարող է դադարեցնել այլ կենդանի արարածի կյանքը, կենդանու սրտի բաբախումը: Ո՞վ է ասել, որ մենք կարող ենք որոշել մյուսների ճակատագիրը: Ո՞վ է ասել, որ մենք կարող ենք սահմանափակել նրանց ապրելու իրավունքը: Սա պայքար չէ մարդու և կենդանիների միջև՝ սննդի կամ նույնիսկ տարածքի համար: Սրանք անգամ ջանքեր չեն կարգավորելու կենդանիների թվաքանակը (ինչը նույնպես մեր գերակայությունը կամ իրավունքը չէ): Սա սպանդ է, կենդանիների արյունալի սպանդ, որը շարունակվում է մինչ օրս: Ե՞րբ մենք՝ մարդիկ, կգիտակցենք, որ միայնակ չենք այս մոլորակի վրա: Ե՞րբ մենք կհասկանանք, որ ամբողջ հասույթը կամ փողը (որը գալիս է կենդանիներին սպանելուց) մի օր վերջանալու է: Ե՞րբ ենք գիտակցելու, որ մենք պատասխանատու ենք բնության և ամբողջ մոլորակի համար: Ինչքա՞ն արյուն դեռ պետք է թափվի՝ դա հասկանալու համար: Ե՞րբ ենք դադարեցնելու այս սպանությունները:
Ես դիմում եմ այժմ բոլոր նրանց, ովքեր անում են սա: Դադարեցրե՛ք այս սպանդը: Դադարեցրե՛ք մյուս արարածների կյանքի և ազատության սահմանափակումը: Դադարեցրե՛ք ավերել մեր մոլորակը:
Ես դիմում եմ նաև բոլոր նրանց, ովքեր պատասխանատու ենք կենդանիների անվտանգության համար և մշտապես փորձում են ապահովել նրանց համար առավել անվտանգ կյանք: Շնորհակալություն ձեր մշտական ու անկեղծ ջանքերի համար:
Մենք պետք է գիտակցենք, որ երբ սպանում ենք կենդանիներին, սպանում ենք ամեն կենդանի բան մեր մոլորակի վրա՝ ներառյալ ինքներս մեզ: Բացի այդ, կենդանուն սպանելուց դեպի մարդ սպանելն ընդամենը մեկ քայլ է:
Ցավոք սրտի, ես չեմ կարող ժամանել տվյալ տեղանք ու տեղում պահել որսորդի կրակոցը: Սակայն ես և բոլոր նրանք, ովքեր սիրում են բնությունը, կարող են արձակել պատասխան «կրակ» բոլոր որսագողերի ուղղությամբ և անել դա բնության փրկությանն ուղղված մեր մշտական ջանքերի գործադրմամբ, բնության պահպանության ուղղված մեր հասարակական և մասնագիտական գործունեությամբ, բնության նկատմամբ սերը և հետաքրքրությունը մեծացնող մեր հոդվածների օգնությամբ, մարդկանց մտքում փոփոխություն առաջացնելուն միտված մեր ջանքերի շնորհիվ:
Հուսով եմ, որ մի օր մենք կապրենք բնության հետ ներդաշնակության և խաղաղության մեջ, սակայն այդ լուսավոր օրվա համար մենք պետք է գործենք այսօր, մեզանից յուրաքանչյուրն իր տեղում և իր միջոցներով:
Հ.Գ. Ես գրեցի հոդվածը նախ անգլերեն և հետո հայերեն: Կարծում եմ, որ սրանում ինչ-որ խորհրդանշական բան կա, քանի որ այս հոդվածն ունի միջազգային ուղերձ է:

Բնության հետ ներդաշնակ
Զո՛ւր եք փնտրում զոհերի՛, այս փո՛ւչ կյանքում գոհերի՛,
Երջանիկը որտե՞ղ է, արդյո՞ք գիտի իր տեղը,
Արդյո՞ք խաղա՛ղ է ապրում, Բնության հետ ներդաշնա՛կ,
Թե՞ հեռացել է վաղուց հազա՜ր-հազա՜ր ոտնաչափ:
Արդյո՞ք առյուծ մորթողի՛ն, վիթին զենքո՛վ հաղթողին
Պատվանդանի՛ն դնելով ինքներս մեզ չե՛նք զոհում,
Անխղճաբար թաղե՛լ ենք խի՛ղճն ու խիղճը Տվողի՛ն,
Բնությանը վե՛րջ տալով մենք մեր տո՛ւնն ենք գրոհում:
Ներդաշնա՜կ ու խաղա՜ղ է կյանքը տրվել ապրելու,
Փչացրե՛լ ենք մինչև վե՛րջ, փչացե՛լ ենք հետն էլ մե՛նք,
Ճշմարիտը այն մա՛ղն է, որով ջո՛ւր ենք տանելու,
Հրազենի՛ փոխարեն սե՜րը պիտի սարքենք զե՛նք:

This is not even usual hunting, this is barbarism, disregard and mockery towards nature. These killings are being done for money, for fun, for sport interest, for prestige, for an “authority” (which is very suspicious and controversial). I can’t imagine how a human being can be so cruel and barbaric to nature, humiliating animals. How easy a human being can stop another being’s life, the beating of animal’s heart. Who said that we can decide others’ destinies? Who said that we can limit their right to live? This is not a fight for food or even for territory between human and animals. This is not even attempts for regulation of animals’ quantity (which is also not our priority or right). This is a massacre, a bloody massacre of animals which continues up to now. When will we – humans realize, that we are not alone on this planet? When will we understand that all the income or money (which are coming from killing the animals) will end one day? When will we realize, that we are responsible for the nature and for the whole planet? How much blood must be spilled to understand that? When will we stop this killings?
I address now to all those who are doing this. Stop this massacre! Stop the limitation of the life and the freedom of other creatures’. Stop destroying our planet! I address also to all those who are responsible for animals’ security and always try to provide safer life for them. Thank you for your permanent and sincere efforts! We must realize, that when we kill animals we are killing all the life on our planet, including ourselves – humans. Besides, there is a single step from killing an animal to killing a human.
Unfortunately I can’t arrive to the place and keep the hunter’s shot. But I, and all those who love nature, can give an responsive “shot” in address to all the poachers with the help of our permanent efforts to save the nature, with the help of our public or professional activity on nature conservation, with the help of our articles to increase the interest and love to nature, with the help of our efforts to make change in people’s minds.
I hope that one day we will live in harmony and peace with all the nature, but for that lightfull day we must act today, each of us in his place and through his means.

Զրուցելով Հովազ–Բնության հետ
Բնության հետ մի երեկո
Բռնվեցի զրույցի,
Եվ, Հովազի խոսո՜ւն դեմքով,
Պատասխանեց իմ հարցին,
Նա անաղա՜րտ, հույսո՜վ լցված
Նախանձելի մաքրությա՜մբ,
Ասես, ժպտաց խորաթափա՜նց
Ու միամի՜տ իմ հոգուն:
Մայր Բնության հե՜զ աչքերով
Հովազը լուռ ու երկար
Նայեց հոգուս նե՜րսը տխուր,
Հուսալքվա՜ծ և ունա՜յն,
Տեսավ այնտեղ իմ ցասո՛ւմը,
Որ քերո՛ւմ է խորությամբ,
Որ հյուծո՛ւմ է ինձ անդադա՛ր
Ու անվե՜րջ մտահոգում:
Կարդաց այնտեղ անհանգի՛ստը,
Ասես՝ հոգում իմ ակա՛ն,

Ձեռքս կամաց դրի հուժկո՜ւ,
Հզո՜ր մեջքին կենդանու
Եվ վեր կացա հաստատակա՛մ,
Ու վեհացա՜վ իմ հոգին.
Մարդն, ինչքա՛ն էլ չարիք գործի,
Մի օր կա՛նգ է առնելու,
Եվ բարեսի՜րտ Բնությունը
Հովազի՜ պես գալու է ու
Նորի՛ց կանգնի իր կողքին:

Սիրելի Ընթերցողներ, Բնությունը մշտապես խոսում է մեզ հետ: Այն մե՛րթ ներկայանում է մեզ հացի փշրանքի սպասող փոքրիկ ճնճղուկի տեսքով, մե՛րթ մեզ է նայում կենդանաբանական այգու վանդակաճաղերից ներս՝ խոսուն հայացքով հզոր հովազի աչքերով: Բնության հետ զրույցն ամենուր է ու տարակերպ: Եվ ահա, հովազի տեսքով ներկայացած Բնության հետ զրույցի մասին է իմ այս բանաստեղծությունը, որ վեր է հանում ամենակարևորը՝ Բնության և ինքդ քեզ հետ ներդաշնակ ու խաղաղ ապրելու գաղափարը: Երբեք չկորցնենք Աստծո արարչագործության պսակի՝ Բնության հետ հաղորդակցվելու, խոսելու և խաղաղ գոյակցելու մեզ տրված հնարավորությունը: Եվ այսպես, զրույց հովազի կերպարանքով Բնության հետ: Կարդացեք նոր բանաստեղծությունս և մշտապես մոտ եղեք Բնությանը: Առաջարկում եմ ստորև ծանոթանալ նաև մի շատ բնասեր մարդու պատմությանը:

Ալան Ռաբինովից. նրանց ձայնը, ովքեր ձայն չունեն
Իմ հարգելի Ընթերցողները Հայաստանում և արտասահմանում գիտեն, թե որքան նվիրված եմ Բնությանը: Բոլոր Ընթերցողներս լավ գիտեն նաև, որ «Ապրելու իրավունք» գիրքը, որը իմ կյանքի գրեթե տասը տարվա աշխատանքն է, նվիրված է առյուծներին ու վայրի Բնությանը:
Սակայն իմ գրական գործունեությունը ներկայացնելուց բացի, ես մշտապես ջանում եմ գտնել, ճանաչել ու ներկայացնել Ձեզ նաև այլ բնասեր մարդկանց, որոնց կյանքը, գործունեությունն ու նվիրվածությունը Բնությանը կարող են օրինակ ծառայել յուրաքանչյուրի համար: Ես անչափ ուրախ էի ինձ համար բացահայտելու կենդանաբան, բնապահպան, խոշոր կատուների` աշխարհի առաջատար մասնագետներից մեկին` Ալան Ռաբինովիցին, որը Նյու Յորքում հիմնադրված «Panthera» կազմակերպության գործադիր տնօրենն է: Կազմակերպությունը կոչված է պաշտպանելու աշխարհում տարածված վայրի կատուների 37 տեսակներին (Նյու Յորք, URL: http://www.panthera.org):

Alan Rabinowitz. The voice of those that have no voice
My respectful Readers in Armenia as well as in abroad know that how much I am dedicated to Nature. All my readers know well that the book “Right to Live”, which is the work of the last almost ten years of my life, is about Lions and Wildlife.
But besides the representation of my literary activity, I always try to find, know and introduce to you also other nature lover people, whose life, аctivity and dedication to the Nature can be an example for each. I was so glad to discover for me Mr. Alan Rabinowitz, zoologist, conservationist, field biologist, one of the world’s leading big cat experts and the CEO of Panthera NY-based nonprofit dedicated to protecting the world’s 37 wild cat species (New York, NY, URL: http://www.panthera.org).
My dear Friends, the planet Earth is rich by these kind of people who care about Nature, people who have dedicated their lives to Animals, Nature and its conservation. I would like to offer you to watch an amazing short film titled “Man and Beast”. This film portrays the life and conservation career of Dr. Alan Rabinowitz. Be sure to see this touching film. It will tell you much.
I was very excited by the following words from the film: “Right then I made a promise. If I could ever find my voice I would become the voice of those that had no voice – the animals”.

Սիրելի Ընթերցողներ, շնորհավորում եմ «Երկրի օրվա» առթիվ: 1970 թվականի ապրիլի 22-ին քսան միլիոն ամերիկացիներ համախմբվեցին առաջին անգամ նշելու «Երկրի օրը», որի նպատակն է մարդկության ուշադրությունը սևեռել Երկիր մոլորակի էկոհամակարգի զգայունության ու փխրուն վիճակի վրա, ինչպես նաև սերմանելու մոլորակի նկատմամբ սեր և հոգածություն, պարտավորվածություններ և դրանք կատարելու պատրաստակամություն: Միջազգային հանրությունն ամեն տարի աշխարհի 192 պետություններում նշում է «Երկրի օրը» բնապահպանական լայնամասշտաբ քարոզարշավներով ու միջոցառումներով: Երկիր մոլորակը մեր բոլորի տունն է, եկեք դարձնենք մեր ամեն օրը «Երկրի օր»: Հարգանքով՝ Առլեն Շահվերդյան:
Չորս րոպե, որ կփոխեն ձեր կյանքը / Four minutes that will change your life
Ի՞նչ է վերջին 50 տարիների ընթացքում մարդը ոչնչացրել Երկիր մոլորակի վրա (Աղբյուրը՝ www.finance.am):
Վերջին 50 տարիների ընթացքում մարդը վերացրել է խոշոր ձկների համաշխարհարհային պաշարի 90%-ը: Օվկիանոսի ձկնորասական հայտնի շրջանների 22% կա՛մ լրիվ սպառվել են, կա՛մ գտնվում են ծանրաբեռնված շահագործման տակ, իսկ 44%-ը գտնվել են վերացման եզրին: Որսալով ուտելի ձկներ՝ մենք ամեն տարի 27 տոննա այլ, ոչ կենսունակ կենդանատեսակներ ենք նետում հետ: Որոշ շրջաններում ծովի հատակը այնքան է լցված ուռկաններով, որ այնտեղ էլ ոչ մի կենդանատեսակ չի ապրում: Վերջին 50 տարիների ընթացքում մարդը վերացրել է համաշխարհային անտառի 70%-ը: Մնացած անտառների մոտ 30%-ը մասնատված են և դեգրադացվում են, իսկ հատման աշխատանքները տարեկան կազմում են 50 ք/կմ: Վերացրել է ավելի քան 45 հազար լիճ: Ամեն տարի քիմիական գործարանները արտանետում են 70 հազար տոննա տարբեր օրգանական միացություններ և ամեն տարի դրանց քանակը ավելանում է 1000 նոր տեսականիով: Դրանց միայն մի փոքր մասն է ստուգված անվտանգության նկատառումներով: Վերջին 50 տարիների ընթացքում մարդը վերացրել է բոլոր տեսակի թռչունների ¼-ը, մնացածի 11%-ը վերացման եզրին է: Վերացման եզրին են նաև բոլոր կաթնասունների 18%-ը, ձկների՝ 5%, իսկ բույսերի՝ 8%: Մի խոսքով, Երկիր մոլորակի հայտնի ռեսուրսների 30%-ը անվերադարձ վերացված են, և դա այն ժամանակ, երբ բնակչության քանակը գնալով աճում է:

Մեզանից շատերի համար սովորական բան է այցելելը կրկես ու վայրի կենդանիներով բեմադրված տարբեր ներկայացումներ դիտելը, որոնցում կենդանիները իրականացնում են զանազան համարներ, վազում են, ցատկում և այլն: Այդ պահին մենք ուրախանում ենք ու ծափահարում: Սակայն մեզանից քչերը կարող են պատկերացնել, թե ինչպիսի դժոխքի միջով են անցնում բոլոր այդ կենդանիները, նախքան որևէ համար անելը: Մեզանից քչերն են երբևէ պատկերացրել այն տանջանքներն ու նսեմացումը, որի միջով անցնում են վայրի կենդանիները աշխարհի շատ կրկեսներում: Ժամանակն է դադարեցնել բոլոր այս ներկայացումները, որոնք ուրախացնում են մարդկանց կենդանիների արյան ու ցավի գնով: Կարո՞ղ եք պատկերացնել այսպիսի կյանք, օրըստօրե, ամսեամիս: Կարո՞ղ եք դիտել այսպիսի սարսափելի տեսանյութեր առնվազն մեկ ժամ շարունակ: Իհարկե՝ ոչ: Ուրեմն մտածենք այն ցավի մասին, որ պատճառում ենք վարժեցվող կենդանիներին: Ժամանակն է դադարեցնելու կրկեսներում ու կենդանաբանական այգիներում վանդակների մեջ պահվող վայրի կենդանիների բոլոր այս դաժան նսեմացումները: Միացեք այս հոդվածին և տարածեք այն ի նշանավորումն կենդանիների ազատության և նրանց ապրելու իրավունքի:

For many of us it’s a common thing to go to the circus and watch various performances with wild animals, where they do different tricks, where they run, jump or do anything else. At that moment we get fun and applaud them. But few of us imagine through what hell all these animals go before performing a particular trick. Few of us have ever imagined the torment and humiliation through which wild animals go in many of circuses of the world. I think it’s time to stop these activities, performances that delight people at the cost of blood and pain of animals. Can you imagine such life? Day after day, month after month till the death of animal. Can you watch these kind of horrible videos at least an hour? Of course – not. So let’s think about the pain we cause to trained animals. It’s time to stop all these cruel tortures of wild animals which are kept in cages in circuses and zoos. Join this article and share it in tribute to freedom of animals and their right to live.

Առյուծ՝ Երևանի կենտրոնում / A Lion in the Centre of Yerevan
Ես գիտեմ, որ զարմացաք՝ կարդալով իմ նոր հոդվածի այս անսպասելի վերնագիրը: Պատկերացրեք, թե որքան զարմացած էի ես, երբ առաջին անգամ տեսա այս առյուծին Երևանի կենտրոնում, իսկ ավելի ստույգ՝ էգ առյուծի արձանը, մի տպավորիչ կոթող, որը տեղադրված է ժայռի վրա, մեր քաղաքի կենտրոնական այգիներից մեկի՝ Մանկական երկաթուղու այգու կողքին: Կարծում եմ, որ արձանի սկզբնական մտահղացումը եղել է ընձառյուծ պատկերելը, մի կենդանի, որն առավել բնորոշ է մեր ներկայիս բնությանը և հայտնի՝ մեր կենսաբազմազանության մեջ: Սակայն արձանի խոշոր չափսերը և ծավալը, ինչպես նաև դրա հզոր տեսքը հաստատում են, որ դա հենց էգ առյուծ է: Փաստ է, որ կար ժամանակ, երբ առյուծները սովորական կենդանիներ էին Հայկական լեռնաշխարհի հարավում: Այս փառահեղ ու վեհասքանչ գիշատիչները դարեր շարունակ հանդիսացել են մեր արքայությունների խորհրդանիշները: Աշխարհում մի քանի երկրներ կան, որոնց պետական զինանշանին մեկից ավելի առյուծ է պատկերված: Հայաստանի Հանրապետության պետական զինանշանին պատկերված է միանգամից երեք առյուծ: Առյուծների մասին պատմող «Ապրելու իրավունք» վերնագրով իմ գրքում ես մանրամասն գրել եմ առյուծների դերի ու նշանակության մասին ինչպես մեր հնագույն պատմության մեջ, յուրահատուկ բնաշխարհում, այնպես էլ հայկական զինանիշագիտության մեջ ու մշակույթում: Ուրախ եմ, որ առյուծի այսպիսի գեղեցիկ ու տպավորիչ արձան կա իմ երկրում, մի վայր, որտեղ առյուծի հզորությունն ու արիությունը հրաշալիորեն արտացոլում է իմ հնագույն, քաջ ու իմաստուն ազգի ոգին ու արիությունը:

I know that you were surprised reading this unexpectable title of my new post. Imagine, how much I was surprised, when for the first time I saw this lion in the centre of Yerevan. To be more concrete – it is a statue of lioness, a very impressive statue situated on the rock, near one of the central parks of our city – The park of Children Railway. Well, I think that the initial idea of this statue was to create a leopard which is much more characteristic to our now days nature and known in our biodiversity. But the massiveness of this statue and its powerful look are proving that it is exactly a lioness. It is a fact that there was a time that lions were very usual animals in the South of the Armenian Highlands. These majestic predators have been symbols of our kingdoms for centuries. There are a few countries in the world which have more than one lion on their state coat of arm. There are at once three lions on the coat of arms of the Republic or Armenia. In my book of lions, called “The right to live”, I wrote in details about the role and value of lions both in our ancient history, nature, and in the Armenian heraldry and culture. I am glad that there is such a beautiful and impressive statue of lion in my country, a place were exactly the power and courage of lion wonderfully express the soul of my ancient, brave and wisdom Nation.

Dear friends, it my pleasure to introduce to you a special and large interview with me on the official website of “Gazeta.am”, presented on October 20th.
As the interview is in Armenian language, I’ll introduce it in brief to my foreign friends: the interview is a sincere talk with me as an author. I speak about my latest published book, titled “The Value of Silence”, also about my literary activity. I spoke also about my inspirations, about the importance of the ecological education and the human inner ecological culture for living in peace and harmony with the nature and with the whole environment. You can find much more in the interview.
I deeply appreciate this publication and would like to express my deepest gratitude to the whole beautiful and gentle staff of the “Gazeta.am”. It was a great pleasure to be invited by this nice and professional staff, to share my thoughts with all the nice members of this news website. Dear readers, it my pleasure to introduce to you an interview with me on the official website of “Armenpress” news agency, presented on October 20th.
As the interview is in Armenian language, I’ll introduce it in brief to my foreign friends: the interview is a sincere talk with me as an author. I speak about my literary and painting interests, about the issues that I care, also about my books and literary activity, expressing my thoughts on nowadays literature, the main sources of inspiration for me as well as about the importance of the ecological education and the human inner ecological culture for living in peace and harmony with the nature and with the whole environment.

«Լռության գինը» գրքի շնորհանդեսը / The Presentation of the book “The Value of Silence”

Սիրելի՛ ընթերցողներ, հաճույքով տեղեկացնում եմ, որ հոկտեմբերի 4-ին՝ Կենդանիների պաշտպանության միջազգային օրը, տեղի ունեցավ «Լռության գինը» նոր գրքիս հեռուստաշնորհանդեսը Հայաստանի Հանրային հեռուստատեսության (Հ1) «Առաջին լրատվական» ծրագրի գլխավոր թողարկման ժամանակ:
«Լռության գինը» գիրքը լույս է ընծայվել Բնության համաշխարհային հիմնադրամի հայաստանյան մասնաճյուղի (WWF-Հայաստան) ֆինանսական աջակցությամբ և մասնագիտական խորհրդատվությամբ: Այն նվիրված է կովկասյան ընձառյուծին, Հայաստանում խիստ հազվագյուտ և հրաշագեղ այս կենդանու պահպանությանն ուղղված WWF-Հայաստանի բազմամյա, օգտակար ու հետևողական ջանքերին, ինչպես նաև Հայաստանի պատմամշակութային ժառանգությանը: «Լռության գինը» երկրորդ գիրքն է, որը լույս է ընծայվում Բնության համաշխարհային հիմնադրամի հայաստանյան մասնաճյուղի աջակցությամբ: Ընթերցողները հիշում են, որ առյուծ կենդանատեսակին նվիրված «Ապրելու իրավունք» վերնագրով իմ գիրքը, իր բովանդակային ընդգրկումով և բնապահպանական հարցադրումով արժանանալով Բնության համաշխարհային հիմնադրամի հայաստանյան մասնաճյուղի ուշադրությանը, լույս տեսավ WWF-Հայաստանի ֆինանսական աջակցությամբ, 2011 թվականին: Գիրքը լայն արձագանք գտավ մասնագիտական շրջանակներում, ԶԼՄ-ներում, ընթերցասեր ու բնասեր հասարակության շրջանում: Այն նվիրաբերվեց մասնագիտական կառույցներին, կրթական հաստատություններին, գրանցվեց գրադարաններում, այդ թվում՝ ԱՄՆ-ի Կոնգրեսի գրադարանում:
«Լռության գինը» բնաճանաչողական և բնապահպանական բովանդակությամբ նոր գրքի առանցքում դարձյալ մարդ–բնություն ներդաշնակ հարաբերության կարևորումն է: Գրքում նշվում է բնության նկատմամբ հոգատար ու խոհեմ վերաբերմունքի խիստ անհրաժեշտությունը: Լռությունը, անտարբերությունը անպաշտպան են թողնում վայրի բնությանը, հաճախ լռության գինը վայրի բնության խաղաղ ու անվնաս գոյության վտանգումն է:
«Լռության գինը» գրքի լույսընծայման առիթով ես իմ խորին երախտագիտությունն եմ հայտնում WWF-Հայաստանի տնօրեն, կենսաբանական գիտությունների թեկնածու Կարեն Մանվելյանին, WWF-Հայաստանի Համագործակցության և հասարակայնության հետ կապերի բաժնի ղեկավար Գեռա Ոսկանյանին, ինչպես նաև մասնաճյուղի ամբողջ անձնակազմին: Ինձ համար շատ թանկ ու կարևոր է WWF-Հայաստանի հետ իմ բազմամյա ու անխախտ բարեկամությունը, կշիռ ունեցող և հեղինակություն վայելող բնապահպանական մի կառույց, որտեղ գործում և արարում են բնության իսկական նվիրյալներ:
«Լռության գինը» գիրքը տպագրվել է «Սամարկ» տպագրատանը: Որակյալ տպագրության համար խորին շնորհակալություն եմ հայտնում տպագրատան ամբողջ անձնակազմին:
Գրքի հեռուստաշնորհանդեսը եզակի իրավունքով և բարձր պրոֆեսիոնալիզմով իրականացրեց Հայաստանի Հանրային հեռուստատեսության «Առաջին լրատվական» ծրագիրը: Բովանդակալից և որակյալ տեսանյութում պատճաշ կերպով լուսաբանվեցին կովկասյան ընձառյուծի և, առհասարակ, բնության պահպանության ուղղությամբ իրականացվող WWF-Հայաստանի շնորհակալ գործունեությունը, իմ և WWF-Հայաստանի միջը համագործակցության արդյունքները՝ ի դեմս հրատարակված գրքերի:
Իմ խորին շնորհակալությունը և գոհունակությունն եմ հայտնում «Առաջին լրատվական» ծրագրի մեկնաբան Աբրահամ Գասպարյանին, տեսանյութը պատրաստած լրագրող Լուսինե Մկրտչյանին, «Առաջին լրատվական» ծրագրի ամբողջ անձնակազմին: Շնորհակալ եմ նաև «Առաջին լրատվականի» ծրագրին իմ կայքում և Յութուբի ալիքում տեսանյութի ցուցադրման բացառիկ իրավունքի տրամադրման համար:
Որպես հեղինակ իմ խորին շնորհակալությունն եմ հայտնում գրքի խմբագիր Արմինե Մովսիսյանին և տեխնիկական խմբագիր Վահե Խալաֆյանին:
Ինձ համար պատիվ և երջանկություն է, որ վերը նշված բոլոր անձինք իմ հրաշալի բարեկամներն են: Նրանք ոչ միայն եզակի ու բարեշնորհ անձնավորություններ են, այլև իրենց գործի անմնացորդ նվիրյալներ և բարձր պրոֆեսիոնալներ:
Հատկապես ուրախ եմ, որ գրքի հանրահռչակումը տեղի ունեցավ Կենդանիների պաշտպանության միջազգային օրը, ինչը շատ խորհրդանշական էր ինձ համար, որպես նվիրյալ բնասեր գրողի:
«Լռության գինը» գիրքը ենթակա չէ վաճառքի, այն չունի կոմերցիոն նպատակ և որպես նվիրատվություն տրամադրվելու է մասնագիտական շրջանակներին, բնասերներին: Գրքի առցանց ամբողջական տարբերակը հեղինակային իրավունքով բաց տեղադրված է իմ հեղինակային բլոգ-կայքում և հասանելի է բոլոր ընթերցասերներին (տես ներքևում): Գիրքը կարելի է գտնել նաև Հայաստանի ազգային գրադարանում և Երևանի Ավետիք Իսահակյանի անվան կենտրոնական գրադարանում:

Dear friends, it’s my pleasure to inform you that on October 4th – the World Animal Day, the TV presentation of my new book “The Value of Silence” was aired on Public TV Company of Armenia, in “The First Informational Programme”.
The book “The Value of Silence” was published by the financial support and professional consultation of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Armenian Branch. The book is dedicated to one of the extremely rare and amazing animals of Armenia – the caucasian leopard (also known as persian leopard), as well as the WWF-Armenia’s long-term, useful and consistent efforts on the caucasian leopard’s conservation and also the Armenian historical and cultural heritage. “The Value of Silence” is the second book which is being published by WWF-Armenia’s support. The readers remember my previous book about lions, titled “Right to Live”. Due to its content, unique message and environmental significance, the book was noticed and valued by the WWF-Armenia and was published with WWF-Armenia’s financial support in 2011. That book found a wide feedback among the professional sphere, the Mass Media and, of course, among the nature lover readers. The book was given for free to professional centers, educational institutes and was cataloged in libraries, including the Library of Congress, US.
The main message of the environmental and conservation new book, titled “The Value of Silence” is again the importance of the harmonic relations between human and nature. There is underlined the necessity of careful and wise attitude towards the nature. Silence, ignorance leave helpless the wildlife and often the value of silence is the endangerment of the peaceful and secure existence of the wild nature.
In connection with the publication of the book, I would like to express my deep appreciation and gratefulness to Karen Manvelyan, PhD, Director of the WWF-Armenia, to Gera Voskanyan, Partnership and Communications Manager, WWF-Armenia, as well as to the whole stuff of the WWF Armenian Branch. My long-term and constant friendship with the WWF-Armenia is very important and very near and dear to me. This is an authority and weighty environmental center where work and create true lovers of the nature.
The book “The Value of Silence” was published in “Samark” publishing house. I thank very much the whole stuff of this publishing house for the high quality of the book.
The TV presentation of the book was held with exclusive right and high professionalism by the “The First Informational Programme”, Public TV Company of Armenia. In this high quality and professional reportage there were promoted the useful activity of the WWF-Armenia on the caucasian leopard’s conservation and the nature in general. The reportage was also about the published books “Right to Live and “The Value of Silence, which are the results (products) of the cooperation between the WWF-Armenia and me.
I express my deep and sincere gratefulness to PhD Abraham Gasparyan, the TV announcer of the “The First Informational Programme”, Public TV Company of Armenia, to Lusine Mkrtchyan who made this wonderfull reportage and to the whole stuff of “The First Informational Programme”. Thank you also for providing me the exclusive right of showing this reportage also in my blog and on my Youtube channel.
As the author of the book I would like to thank also Armine Movsisyan, the editor of the book and Vahe Khalafyan, the technical editor.
It is an honor for me that all these persons mentioned above are my wonderful friends. They are not only very unique and courteous persons but high professionals who are truly devoted to their work.
I am especially happy that the public TV presentation of the book was held on World Animal Day which is very symbolic for me as an truly devoted nature lover writer.
The book “The Value of Silence” is not for sale, it does not have any commercial aim and as a gift will be distributed among professional centers and nature lovers. Աշնանային էկոճամբար «Զիկատար» բնապահպանական կենտրոնում. 2014թ-ի հոկտեմբերի 30-ից մինչև նոյեմբերի 2-ը կազմակերպվել էր տարածաշրջանային էկոճամբար Հայաստանի և Վրաստանի դպրոցների աշակերտների և ուսուցիչների համար Տավուշի մարզում գտնվող «Զիկատար» բնապահպանական կենտրոնում: Միջոցառման նպատակն էր կազմակերպել բնապահպանական սեմինարներ և շրջագայություններ՝ բարձրացնելու աշակերտների և ուսուցիչների իրազեկվածությունը բնապահպանության, այդ թվում անտառների, մարդկանց համար բնության կենսական դերի վերաբերյալ և այլն: Բնապահպանական միջոցառումը կազմակերպել էր Երևանի «Մխիթար Սեբաստացի» կրթահամալիրը, WWF-Հայաստանի աջակցությամբ: Միջոցառմանը ներկա էին ավելի քան 40 մասնակից՝ «Մխիթար Սեբաստացի» կրթահամալիրից (ներառյալ միջնակարգ և ավագ դպրոցները), Արագածոտնի և Գեղարքունիքի մարզերի 2 և Թբիլիսիի (Վրաստան) 4 դպրոցներից: Խորին շնորհակալություն WWF-Armenia-ին (WWF-Հայաստան) իր բնապահպանական նվիրյալ, շնորհակալ ու կարևոր գործունեության համար: Ուրախ եմ նաև, որ WWF-Հայաստանի ջանքերով «Լռության գինը» գիրքս հերթական անգամ գտավ իր ընթերցողներին, այս անգամ՝ ի դեմս երիտասարդ բնասերների: Հատուկ շնորհակալություն WWF-Հայաստանի տնօրեն Կարեն Մանվելյանին և WWF-Հայաստանի Համագործակցության և հասարակայնության հետ կապերի բաժնի ղեկավար Գեռա Ոսկանյանին: Կարդա ավելին այստեղ:
Autumn Eco-Camp in Zikatar Environmental Center From October 30 to November 02, 2014 a Regional Eco-Camp was held for pupils and teachers from Armenia and Georgia in Zikatar Environmental Center, Tavush province. The aim of the event was to conduct environmental seminars and organize environmental tours to raise the awareness of pupils and teachers on nature conservation including forests, the vital role of nature for people, etc. The environmental event was organized by Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex of Yerevan with the support of WWF-Armenia. There were more than 40 participants from Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex (including secondary and high schools), 2 schools from Aragatsotn and Gegharkunik provinces and 4 schools of Tbilisi, Georgia. I deeply appreciate the devoted, conservational and thankful activity of WWF-Armenia. I also glad that thanks to WWF-Armenia efforts my new book, titled “The Value of Silence” found its readers, this time – there were young nature lovers. ♦ 2014 թ. դեկտեմբերի 6-ին, Հայաստանի նկարիչների միությունում (Երևան) WWF-Հայաստանը մասնակցեց Երևանի միջազգային կանանց միության (IWAY) կողմից կազմակերպված Սուրբծննդյան տոնավաճառին: Ավելի քան 85 կազմակերպություններ, այդ թվում ՀԿ-ներ, դեսպանատներ և միջազգային կազմակերպություններ, ինչպես նաև խանութներ Սուրբծննդյան տոնավաճառին ներկայացնում և վաճառում էին իրնեց ձեռքի աշխատանքները՝ արծաթյա և ոսկյա իրեր, ամանորյա զարդեր, տիկնիկներ, տարբեր քաղցրավենիքներ, հրուշակեղեն, խմիչքներ, չրեր և այլն: Տոնավաճառի ընթացքում WWF-Հայաստանը ներկայացնում էր այցելուներին իր առաքելությունը, նպատակները և աշխատանքները, ինչպես նաև այցելուներին բաժանում էր տարբեր հրատարակություններ և տեղեկատվական նյութեր: Այդ հրատարակությունների շարքում էին WWF-Հայաստանի աջակցությամբ հրատարկված «Ապրելու իրավունք» և «Լռության գինը» գրքերս: Կարդա ավելին >>>
On December 6, 2014 WWF-Armenia participated in a Christmas Bazaar organized by International Women’s Association of Yerevan (IWAY) at Artists Union of Armenia (Yerevan). During the event over 85 exhibitors including NGOs, embassies, international organizations, corporate sector and shops were presenting and selling their own hand-made stuff such as jewelry, Christmas decorations, dolls, various sweets, pastries, cookies, beverages, dry fruits and other items. During the entire event WWF-Armenia was presenting to the visitors its mission, goals and activities as well as distributing various publications and visibility materials.
